Chemical Peel

What is a chemical peel?

Non-invasive and highly effective, chemical peels are custom blends of vitamin-rich topical treatments skillfully applied by trained technicians that remove dead or damaged surface cells – to reveal the new, radiant and younger-looking skin beneath.

What are the benefits?

Chemical peels are like a jack of all trades.  Formulated for all skin types (including sensitive skin), they’re just as efficient at minimizing fine lines and scars as they are at lightening age spots and freckles. They also remove broken capillaries, stimulate collagen production, clear up breakouts, minimize pore size, improve skin tone, and treat some forms of acne – resulting in smoother, hydrated and less damaged skin.

Who is a good candidate for a chemical peel?

The good news is that chemical peels can address a wide variety of skin concerns – safely and effectively, with no downtime, and without disrupting your daily routine.

While chemical peels are typically recommended for men and women over the age of 18, they may also be advised for teenagers troubled with acne, enlarged pores or other debilitating skin concerns.

Those experiencing any – or many – of the following conditions will best benefit from this safe, non-invasive and hypoallergenic outpatient option:

  • Sagging, aging skin
  • Tired, sallow complexion
  • Blotchy, uneven skin tone
  • Acne or acne scars
  • Rough, dry and flaky skin
  • Crow’s feet, fine lines or wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation (age spots) or melasma (dark patches)
  • Sun-damaged skin

Good target areas for chemical peels include the face, neck and shoulders.

How does the process work?

A skilled Ecobeautica aesthetician will apply a proprietary blend of topical treatments – that may include alpha-hydroxy, glycolic or other acids – to remove dull, damaged skin cells.  This antioxidant-rich cocktail of powerful ingredients exfoliates the skin, with the rough, dry external layer ultimately peeling off to reveal the smoother, younger-looking layer underneath.

By stimulating the skin’s cell turnover rate, fresh new skin cells rise to the surface.  This results in a noticeably improved complexion characterized by a radiant glow; more even skin tone; smoother appearance; and less wrinkles, fine lines and acne scars.

For best results, our technicians recommend an initial treatment regimen of three to six chemical peels, followed by “maintenance” peels every six to 12 months after that.

What can I expect after the treatment is over?

Since there’s no downtime and no recovery period, you can pick up your day right where you left off!

The amount and degree of peeling will depend on the individual’s skin type, the type of chemical peel, and the depth of the treatment.  Some people may have “sheeting” or large portions of the skin sloughing off at one time, while others may experience smaller pieces of skin coming off, or “flaking.”  Still other men and women may see nothing at all with the naked eye – but are still experiencing exfoliation on a cellular level.  So just because you may not see visible peeling doesn’t mean things aren’t happening below the surface to create radiant, younger-looking skin.

Redness should be minimal and shouldn’t last more than a day.  To maximize your post-peel recovery, you’ll want to:

  • Avoid activities that cause sweating for 48 hours after your treatment
  • Apply creams rich in UV protection
  • Minimize time in the sun – and yes, that includes swimming pools
  • Avoid the temptation of “helping” your skin peel
